Entering “the Internet Age”

In January, 2000 the United Auto Workers union negotiated a benefit that would allow all Ford employees to receive multimedia computer and inexpensive Internet access. Was this just a strong-arm tactic of a powerful union that Ford gave in to, or was there more behind Ford's decision to agree to this?

  • Ford sees that the Internet is rapidly becoming a necessity for doing business, and to Ford's management team, this means that all their employees need to learn how to use it effectively.
  • The spin-off benefit to Ford is that it will allow them to respond to market needs in new and innovative ways.

Right about now, you're probably asking, "What does this have to do with dietitians?"
