Professional Development: Online and Distance Learning

In the last couple of years, the number of opportunities for distance or online learning of professionals has dramatically increased.

  • Academic institutions are beginning to offer specific distance education courses or entire programs for academic credit over the Internet.  This overcomes not only the barriers of potential students living at a distance from the academic institutions, but also the problems associated with getting students or qualified instructors to a classroom at a specific time.

  • There are also a growing number of other high quality online and distance learning opportunities offered through sites operated by your professional peers. 


We've spent a fair bit of time looking at the various ways in which the Internet facilitates our professional learning and development.  We will now look at how the Internet can be used to effectively monitor health- and nutrition-related interests of the public.
