SAN BRUNO,
CALIFORNIA, November 1, 2002- First DataBank has
announced the
release of the newest version of its next-generation
nutrition-analysis
software, Nutritionist Pro. Version 1.3 incorporates a
number of new
features and an expanded knowledge base, to meet the
needs of today's busy
nutrition professionals for faster and more accurate
nutrition analysis.
According to Era Prakash, Product Manager, the new
version uses
technology that "makes it much simpler to use,
easier to navigate, and more
capable of saving nutritionists time and money."
Along with several software enhancements, Prakash said,
the new
version incorporates data on fitness activities from the
highly regarded
American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Using the
ACSM's Compendia of
Activities, fitness trainers-and others-can quickly
calculate the "energy
costs" of a particular physical activity for their
clients. Each ACSM
activity has a corresponding MET value. This value is
used-along with the
client's body weight and the duration of an activity-to
arrive at an
accurate energy cost for that activity.
The new software version, Prakash noted, comes with an
electronic
tutorial on CD-ROM, to help new users of Nutritionist
Pro become familiar
with the product's features and functions more easily.
Nutritionist Pro software is based on First DataBank's
nutrition
knowledge base, which contains detailed information on
over 19,000 foods.
Using advanced technology, the product creates a
streamlined knowledge base
structure for rapid processing, and presents the user
with intuitive
Windows®-based screen formats for ease of use. As a
result, Nutritionist Pro
offers fast, simple access to a rich source of practical
nutrition
information, which users can easily tailor to their
needs.
First DataBank also offers Food Labeling software as a
standalone
product or as an add-on module to Nutritionist Pro. Food
Labeling enables
users to create camera-ready Nutrition Facts labels in
17 different formats.
In addition, labels may include Nutrient Content Claims,
and Hazard Analysis
Critical Control Points (HACCP). The labels generated
are guaranteed to meet
all requirements of the FDA Code of Federal Regulations.
